Trainee Programs
The Dominion is proud of its well-recognized, one-year Trainee Programs. We currently offer Trainee Programs in Commercial Lines Underwriting, Personal Lines Underwriting and Claims. Each program offers a combination of classroom instruction, on-the-job training and one-on-one support through a buddy system. The Trainee Programs will provide you with the skills you need to become a commercial lines underwriter, personal lines underwriter or claims adjuster.
All of our Trainee Programs require a post-secondary degree or diploma, preferably in insurance or a business-related field, or an Insurance Institute designation (CIP). We look for people who are highly motivated and ready to learn. Insurance-related experience is an asset, as is experience in a customer service environment.
Claims
Our Claims Trainee Program will provide you with the opportunity to learn hands-on about claims and the insurance industry. You'll gain experience investigating and evaluating claims, determining coverage availability and processing files. You will get exposure to a variety of claims, including auto, physical damage, property and accident-benefit claims. Once you have successfully completed the Trainee Program, you may specialize in a particular type of claim, such as accident-benefit, casualty or property claims.
Commercial Lines Underwriting
Our Commercial Lines Trainee Program will equip you with the technical and marketing skills necessary to excel as a commercial lines underwriter. We use both theory and practice presentations and case studies to teach, improve, and strengthen the skill sets necessary to function confidently and effectively. You will learn how to analyze policy wordings and apply them in serving the coverage needs of our policyholders. You will learn underwriting discipline and how to identify and assess exposures for a wide variety of property-casualty and automobile risks. You will develop marketing skills that will help you to work with a field of brokers, assisting them in understanding our commercial lines philosophy regarding the quality and type of business that is acceptable to The Dominion.
Personal Lines Underwriting
Our Personal Lines Trainee Program will teach you how to select profitable business for The Dominion to insure. You will learn how to underwrite many types of personal lines exposures, including automobile and habitational risks, boats, rental dwellings and umbrella liability policies. You will learn how to work with our brokers to assist them in selecting and maintaining the quality of business we wish to insure. You will learn how to sell decisions to brokers, evaluate their portfolio of business with The Dominion and identify trends and opportunities to maximize profitability.
