Our Recruitment Process

The Dominion enjoys its reputation as a great company because of the strength of its team. To ensure that we continue to attract and hire the best people, our recruitment and selection process is very thorough. We take our time to get to know applicants, and we think it's important for prospective team members to know this up front.

The following will provide you with some information about our selection process.

How do I apply for a job at The Dominion?

All our current vacancies are posted on Workopolis. Specific instructions with respect to how to apply for a particular job are found on the job posting. We prefer résumés and cover letters to be submitted online. We do, however, accept résumés via regular mail, fax and email.

How long will my résumé be kept on file?

We will keep all résumés on file for a period of 6 months. If your experience and/or qualifications change substantially during this time, please provide us with an updated résumé. While we will keep your résumé on file, we encourage you to visit our website often, as our needs change frequently and a new position may become available.

Will I be contacted?

All résumés are compared to the requirements of the job. If your skills and qualifications closely match those required by the job, you will be considered for an interview. If you are being considered for an interview, a representative of The Dominion will contact you, usually by phone or email, to discuss the position in further detail.

What is the interviewing process?

An applicant must be interviewed by at least two different people, one of whom will be the hiring manager (the person who the employee reports to), before an offer of employment is made. Sometimes two people will interview at the same time; at other times, short-listed candidates will be invited back for a second interview. Remember that the interview is a two-way process. It is an opportunity for you to share information about yourself as well as learn more about the position and The Dominion.

Should I include references when I apply?

No, it is not necessary to include references when you apply. We ask for references at the final stages of the selection process.

Which references should I provide?

We are very specific with respect to the people we contact for a reference. We are interested in employment-related references. Our policy is to contact people to whom you reported directly (i.e. past managers or supervisors; not co-workers or peers). Therefore, when you are asked to provide references, please be prepared to provide the names and phone numbers of at least 3 managers or supervisors.

If you have limited work history, we will consider education-related references and/or references from volunteer or community work.

What other checks do you conduct?

We verify all Canadian credentials. In the case of positions that require the use of a company car, we also conduct an MVR (motor vehicle report) to verify insurability.
